ABSTRACT

Electrophysiologic and clinical features of four patients with nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) were evaluated. One patient (male, aged 22 years) presented with inability to speak, meaningleş wandering, and staring following ceşation of antiepileptic drugs. Another patient (female, aged 55 years) with multiple myeloma developed drowsineş and disorientation during cefepim treatment against an infection. Another patient (female, aged 23 years) experienced disorientation and decreased alertneş during antiepileptic treatment for seizures that occurred following transcranial hypophysectomy. The other patient (female, aged 59 years) had diabetic nephropathy and manifested lisping speech, fuzzineş, and i n d i fferency to environment during treatment with ceftazidime and metronidazole against an infection. Development of NCSE was attributed to sudden ceşation or inappropriate use of antiepileptic drugs, and to the administration of cefepim, ceftazidime, and metronidazole.
