ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE:
Hot water epilepsy (HWE) is a rare form of reflex epilepsy caused by bathing with hot water.
METHODS:
We describe two cases of bathing epilepsy: a 15 year-old female and a 24 year-old male with spells triggered by hot water.
RESULTS:
Its physiopathology remains unknown but genetic factors that determine an alteration in cerebral thermoregulation seem to be involved. Complex tactile stimuli might play the most relevant role on seizure triggering, as well as water temperature with an additive effect over cutaneous
CONCLUSION:
Some may have a genetic basis with added environmental influence.
