ABSTRACT

According to the Report of the ILAE Task Force on Classification and Terminology of Epilepsies and Epileptic syndromes in 2001, infantile spasms, Dravet Syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, Epileptic Encephalopathy with Electrical Status Epilepticus during Slow-wave sleep and Landau-Kleffner sendrome are gathered under the title of ‘epileptic encephalopathies’. Epileptic abnormalities in these syndromes are concidered to be in causal relation with cognitive dysfunction. Psychomotor retardation and decline in language and social performance can also be observed in epileptic encephalopathies.
