ABSTRACT
Ictal crying (dacrystic seizures) is a rare phenomenon. We report two female patients (ages 22 and 24 years) in whom crying was observed during video- EEG monitoring of complex partial and secondary generalized seizures. The epileptogenic focus was in the right frontotemporal region in one patient, and in the left temporal region in the other. Surgical treatment was ruled out because of multifocal epileptogenic regions in the first patient. The latter patient underwent anterior temporal lobectomy and amigdalohippocampectomy after which she was seizure-free for four months. Long-term video-EEG monitoring may reveal crying seizures during complex partial and secondary generalized seizures.
